OAK BROOK, Ill. (December 23, 2013) — The Radiological Society of North America's 99th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting (RSNA 2013) spotlighted the finest in radiologic research and education and the world's largest technical exhibit floor for medical imaging.

RSNA 2013, held in Chicago's McCormick Place December 1 – 6, highlighted RSNA's ongoing commitment to improving patient care through radiology education and research.

"The RSNA annual meeting remains the world's premier scientific and educational forum in radiology," said RSNA Executive Director, Mark Watson. "RSNA 2013 was extremely successful. Professional and exhibitor attendance figures exceeded our expectations, and we had more than 100 first-time exhibitors."

Throughout the week at McCormick Place, professional attendees could choose from 1,839 scientific presentations, 238 refresher courses, 89 multisession courses, 38 series courses, 45 informatics courses, 2,223 education exhibits and 936 scientific posters, as well as numerous special lectures.

Technical exhibits at RSNA 2013 filled two buildings of Chicago's McCormick Place, with 662 exhibits in 437,675 square feet of space, including 104 first-time exhibitors.

"We are always looking to optimize the meeting experience for our attendees," Watson said. "RSNA 2013 offered approximately 5,000 scientific presentations, posters and education exhibits, a vast array of technical exhibits, a new meeting website and app, and an expanded virtual meeting."

Official registration figures for RSNA 2013 reported total attendance at 54,008, including 26,569 professional attendees, 21,312 exhibitors, and 6,127 attendees classified as "guest" or "other." Thirty-seven percent of professional attendees were from outside North America. Professional and exhibitor attendance numbers were on par with previous years.

RSNA introduced CreditEval, the new online continuing education credit and evaluation system. Participation in the new system was very strong. In addition, attendee involvement in Cases of the Day increased significantly.

The economic impact to the City of Chicago is estimated to exceed $135 million.

The RSNA 2013 Virtual Meeting attracted more than 5,700 attendees from 103 countries and offered access to nearly 50 scientific and education courses and sessions.

RSNA 2014, RSNA's 100th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting, will take place November 30 – December 5 in Chicago.

"RSNA is preparing to observe its centennial anniversary with a celebration that will kick off during RSNA 2014 and culminate at the conclusion of RSNA 2015," Watson said.
