OAK BROOK, Ill. (September 14, 2009) — Radiologist Homer A. Macapinlac, M.D., from University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, will bring his medical expertise to Argentina as part of the International Visiting Professor Program offered by the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA). The program fosters international relations among radiology societies to assist with medical education in developing and newly developed nations.

Dr. Macapinlac, professor and chairman, Department of Nuclear Medicine at M. D. Anderson, will be joined by two fellow radiologists as he embarks September 21 on the 10-day trip. He will spend his visit giving presentations and teaching intensive seminars to members of Argentine radiology societies and hospital radiology departments.

The program is mutually beneficial. The visiting team of radiologists informs local doctors and hospitals about the latest advances in diagnostic and therapeutic radiology. In turn, the visiting professors experience firsthand the obstacles faced by medical professionals in the host countries.

"One of the missions at our institution is education, and RSNA's International Visiting Professor Program would provide an opportunity to share our experience in clinical PET/CT imaging," Dr. Macapinlac said.

Dr. Macapinlac is accompanied by Abida Z. Ginai, M.D., Ph.D., F.R.C.R., from University Hospital and Erasmus Medical Center in the Netherlands and Theresa C. McLoud, M.D., from Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Locations of the presentations in Argentina include Italiano Hospital, Deutsche Hospital and the Argentine Congress of Radiology meeting in Buenos Aires.

The International Visiting Professors Program was founded in 1986 and is administered by RSNA's Committee on International Relations and Education (CIRE).
