OAK BROOK, Ill. (October 7, 2008) — Radiologist Raquel del Carpio-O'Donovan, M.D., from McGill University Health Centre in Montreal, Canada, will bring her medical expertise to China as part of the International Visiting Professor Program offered by the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA). The program fosters international relations among radiology societies to assist with medical education in developing and newly developed nations.

Dr. del Carpio-O'Donovan, associate director of radiology at McGill University Health Centre and radiologist at The Montreal General Hospital, will be joined by two fellow radiologists as she embarks October 14 on the 15-day trip. She will spend her visit giving presentations and teaching intensive seminars to members of Chinese radiology societies and hospital radiology departments.

The program is mutually beneficial. The visiting team of radiologists informs local doctors and hospitals about the latest advances in diagnostic and therapeutic radiology. In turn, the visiting professors experience firsthand the obstacles faced by medical professionals in the host countries.

"The RSNA International Visiting Professor Program is an important initiative that allows exchange between our own academic institutions and other places around the globe," said Dr. del Carpio-O'Donovan. "For me, it is a unique opportunity to exchange ideas and ideals with my colleagues in China."

Dr. del Carpio-O'Donovan is accompanied by Edgardo J. Angtuaco, M.D., of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, and Ken L. Schreibman, M.D., of the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Locations of the presentations in China include the Chinese National Congress in Tianjin, The First Hospital of Zhongshan University in Guangzhou and the People's Hospital of Guang Dong Province in Guangzhou.

The International Visiting Professors Program was founded in 1986 and is administered by RSNA's Committee on International Relations and Education (CIRE).
