CHICAGO — George S. Bisset III, M.D., was named chairman of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Board of Directors today at the Society's annual meeting in Chicago.

Dr. Bisset is professor of radiology and pediatrics, as well as staff radiologist at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C., where he has served as vice chairman of the Department of Radiology since 1995 and is presently serving as interim chairman for the department. As of April 2010, Dr. Bisset will become the chief of pediatric radiology at Texas Children's Hospital and professor of radiology at Baylor College of Medicine.

"I am very excited about assuming the new post as RSNA Board chairman," Dr. Bisset said. "Being able to work with the top leadership team of RSNA on such a grand scale is a great opportunity. I hope to be able to serve the members by converting RSNA's long-term vision into reality."

Dr. Bisset earned his medical degree in 1975 at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. At Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC), Dr. Bisset completed an internship in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric cardiology in 1980. In 1983, he began his radiology residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, combined with a pediatric radiology fellowship at CCHMC, completing both in 1986.

From 1980 to 1983, Dr. Bisset was an assistant professor of pediatrics at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. In the past, he has been an assistant and associate professor of radiology and pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (UCCM). He was professor of radiology with tenure at UCCM from 1993 to 1994.

Dr. Bisset has authored or coauthored nearly 200 scientific papers and abstracts. He is currently a reviewer for Radiology, American Journal of Roentgenology and Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology. Dr. Bisset has been invited to lecture at nearly 100 medical schools and meetings throughout North America, Japan, Europe and South America. He has also been a visiting professor at numerous universities and medical schools across the U.S. and in Japan.

During his career, Dr. Bisset has been an active member of various medical organizations and societies. He is currently a member of the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the Society for Pediatric Radiology (SPR). He received the ACR's Distinguished Committee Service Award in 2002 and became a fellow of the ACR in 2008.

He has served on a number of SPR committees, as well as on the board of directors from 1998 to 2001. He received the society's bronze medal in 1988 and the John Caffey Award in 2001. Dr. Bisset has been actively involved with the Association of University Radiologists, the American Roentgen Ray Society and the American Board of Radiology, where he served as a Trustee from 2001-2009.

As a longtime member of RSNA, Dr. Bisset served on the pediatric subcommittee of the Scientific Program Committee from 1990 to 1998. He became chairman of the Scientific Program Committee in 2001. In 2004, he was elected to the RSNA Board of Directors and has been the education liaison since 2005.
